Up2Something Rocks the Rockies

on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 22:00

What a weekend!  60 members of Up2Something converged at the Bill Warren Centre in Canmore this weekend for their annual retreat.  With spectacular views of the majestic Rockies, Up2Something cozied up for some intensive and inspiring teaching from master choral conductor Malcolm Edwards.  The choir was put through its paces as Malcolm led us through a wide range of repertoire with a focus on Christmas repertoire in preparation for "Something Christmas" on December 11th.  Much was accomplished in four workshops spread over three days, leaving us all exhausted and exhilirated!

On Saturday evening, the "Anything Goes Gala" brought out the best (and worst) costumes from our previous nine seasons.  Attendees were seated at themed tables and required to prepare and perform a short song from one of our previous shows, complete with choreography, harmony and theatrics.  The results were histarical and incredibly creative!  The Holiday Inn Canmore served up a first-class buffet and we ate, drank and were merry.  Those with the greatest stamina danced the night away until the wee hours of the morning.

Special thanks to all the volunteers under the direction of Lorie Thomas, Retreat Coordinator, and Sue Yaskiw, Program Coordinator; to Harold at the Bill Warren Centre and his staff; to Malcolm Edwards for his expert instruction; to the staff of the Holiday  Inn Canmore for their hospitality; and to the choir members for making the weekend both incredibly productive and fun!
