The Silent Auction Organizing Committee is working hard at having the silent auction be successful and part of our success depends on your help.  Here are the forms that you can print off to provide to any local business or organizations who may want to help support our program.

Happy New Year!

on Fri, 01/06/2012 - 07:48

2012 has arrived!  We wish all our singers, friends and supporters a very joyous, music-filled 2012.  And ARCS is off to a roaring start...

Our 10th Anniversary Season is now well underway and new singers are being accepted into She's Up2Something (all-women's choir rehearsing on Thursday evenings) and Something Lite (mixed chorus meeting on Wednesday evenings).  Look under the "How2Join" tab for registration information, rehearsal locations and more details.  Start 2012 with a gift to yourself - join a choir and have the time of your life!

There are several exciting events planned in the coming months.  In March, the ARCS Annual Talent Show and Silent Auction will celebrate our 10th with a line-up of amazing talent.  Our theme this year is "10" - our members will dig into our treasure chest of great acts from previous seasons as well as some new ones.  In April, we'll mark our 10th Anniversary with a gala event entitled "Blastissimo" - we hope to see many of our alumni and friends in attendance as we mark this milestone.  Finally, in June, She's Up2Something and Up2Something will join forces to present an high-energy musical tour-de-force celebrating 10 years of music, magic and memories that we're calling "Joy Ride!"  Don't miss any of these outstanding performances!

As we turn the page on another year, all of the staff and board of ARCS take this opportunity to thank our members for their outstanding support for our programs.  We flourish because of you - and because of you, the best is yet to come!  Happy New Year!

Now...That Was Really Something!

on Fri, 12/16/2011 - 10:38

Up2Christmas, Up2Something and Something Different proudly presented two performances of "Something Christmas" on Sunday, December 11th to near-capacity crowds...and the reviews are in:  "That was really something!"

Congratulations to all the performers who created magic with an entertaining and exceptional presentation of holiday music.  The combined choirs stunning performance of "O Holy Night" brought the audience to its feet (and to tears) in both performances.  Thank you for sharing your gifts and for helping bring the spirit of Christmas to our community!

We are so thankful for the opportunity to share our love of music.  It is made even more special by creating beautiful sound with friends.  Michelle, Lorne, Ingrid, Katherine and I are grateful to have the privilege of working with you.

Our thanks to the performers, Steve Olson (our esteemed Emcee), volunteers and all who attended for making "Something Christmas" a great success.  We are proud to support Music Therapy programs at Carewest through a portion of proceeds made on behalf of ARCS to the Calgary Health Trust.

On behalf of ARCS, we wish you and yours all the joys of the season - may it be filled with love, kindness and especially music!

Up2Something Rocks the Rockies

on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 22:00

What a weekend!  60 members of Up2Something converged at the Bill Warren Centre in Canmore this weekend for their annual retreat.  With spectacular views of the majestic Rockies, Up2Something cozied up for some intensive and inspiring teaching from master choral conductor Malcolm Edwards.  The choir was put through its paces as Malcolm led us through a wide range of repertoire with a focus on Christmas repertoire in preparation for "Something Christmas" on December 11th.  Much was accomplished in four workshops spread over three days, leaving us all exhausted and exhilirated!

On Saturday evening, the "Anything Goes Gala" brought out the best (and worst) costumes from our previous nine seasons.  Attendees were seated at themed tables and required to prepare and perform a short song from one of our previous shows, complete with choreography, harmony and theatrics.  The results were histarical and incredibly creative!  The Holiday Inn Canmore served up a first-class buffet and we ate, drank and were merry.  Those with the greatest stamina danced the night away until the wee hours of the morning.

Special thanks to all the volunteers under the direction of Lorie Thomas, Retreat Coordinator, and Sue Yaskiw, Program Coordinator; to Harold at the Bill Warren Centre and his staff; to Malcolm Edwards for his expert instruction; to the staff of the Holiday  Inn Canmore for their hospitality; and to the choir members for making the weekend both incredibly productive and fun!
